QIS Survey
Who has already had a QIS Survey? Here in NY, it is beginning... most of us are very on edge about the new survey process. What is your facility doing to prepare? What are you as a Recreation Therapist, or Activity Director doing to prepare? My facility has not had a QIS survey yet, but we are coming up on our survey window very soon. I have interview questions for our residents to help get a read about how they will answer the surveyors questions. The interview questions are taken directly from the QIS survey itself. This also helps prepare our residents on the questions they may be asked . Are you prepared? If you haven't started thinking about it, now is the time! Take a look at the survey and the question in both Phase 1 and Phase 2. Let's share thoughts and ideas on the best ways to prepare.

Our last survey was a QIS- we used the Interview Questions as "practice runs" and it was helpful. In spite of hearing that there would be 5 surveyors for a minimum of 2 weeks, we had 4 surveyors for 4 days. We are a 20-bed unit so they looked at all 16 of our admitted patients and 40 closed charts. I had just come back that first day from 10 days of vacation so there were zero assessment done (we have pretty rapid turn over of patients). One of the surveyors questioned our MDS Co-ordinator about it but no one every talked directly to me- that kind of irritated me more than a bit. He thought Section F was the only assessment that I did. Huh? First year for our state doing QIS- we expect them to get tougher as the surveyors become more familiar with the QIS process. Good luck to ya.
ReplyDeleteIf you use McKesson for medical supplies they have free software for you to use to track mock QIS surveys. We have been doing them once a quarter for almost a year. It has been pretty interesting what the results are. They have a way for you create action plans too with their software to fix problems. Something you wont be able to fix but at least you know what the problems will be.
